Unequal distribution of resources is the focal cause of insecurity in Kenya
WANJALA B. DANSON
Inequality distribution of resources by former administration and few plans by the current government to improve the situation is the main causes of what we are witnessing in several parts of the country.
Many parties of the country where insecurity has been experienced have scarce basic development indicates. Lamu killings was partly influenced by huge piece of land allocated to twenty two companies leaving residents crowed in small areas turning a huge population to squatters.
In Turkana, Baringo, Isiolo Samburu and West Pokot counties with communities living around Kapedo have a big bite on insecurity. These areas have been left behind in development since colonial time. Areas have impassable road networks, few hospitals and schools. Schools have few teachers, ironically to many unemployed teachers in Kenya. But Insecurity usually scares them away from seeking employment in these areas.
Permanent solution needs to be found to insecurity in marginalized communities, we have to distribute resources equitable. It is not all about firing head officers in the security docket. Politics will only divide the communities and exaggerate the situation.
Cowardly attitude of entombing our head in sand is equivalent to a person who drinks alcohol in hope of run away from these problems only to wake up the next day when the problem has grown much bigger. This is the same rationale that explains why Kenya police were unable to control the situation and KDF had to come in.
If people in Baringo county who killed police officers and stole their guns are provided by resources to provide alternative methods of earning income they will have no time running in forests engaging in criminal activities.
