Union Home Minister Felicitates NDRF Teams For Their Relief & Rescue Assistance In Nepal

The Union Home Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh felicitated the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team which has returned from Nepal after undertaking Rescue & Relief Operations in the earthquake-hit nation, at a function, in New Delhi on May 07, 2015. The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Kiren Rijiju and other dignitaries are also seen.

Nepal Requires Need-Based Supply Of Releif Material

New Delhi (PIB-GR-TYP-BIN): The Union Home Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on May 7, for their exemplary work done in rescue and relief operations in recent earthquake in Nepal.

The Ambassador of Nepal in India, Mr. Deep Kumar Upadhyay appreciated the timely arrival and the role of NDRF and other assistance by the Indian authorities. He mentioned that Nepal required need-based supply of relief material from India and other countries. The Ambassador further mentioned that Nepal expects India to help Nepal in her rehabilitation and re-construction efforts. He also thanked the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the people of India who promptly extended assistance to Nepal. He expressed his happiness on Indo-Nepal cooperation.

The Home Minister said that the Government of India and the Government of Nepal worked closely in this operation under the direction and supervision of the Prime Minister of India and he himself was monitoring the situation with the Ambassador of Nepal in India, NDMA, NDRF and other agencies involved in this operation.

The Union Home Minister stated that he had seen the important role played by NDRF first during Malegaon-landslide incident and subsequently in other rescue operations. He praised the role of NDRF teams in different operations and mentioned that out of 16 persons 11 were rescued by NDRF teams. He further added that Indian relief and rescue teams were the first to reach Nepal immediately to join hands with our friendly neighbor in their hour of need.

Earlier, Director General, NDRF, Mr. O.P. Singh briefed about the movement and role of NDRF teams in relief and rescue operations in Nepal during the last 10-12 days by 16 composite NDRF teams moved from different locations in India.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Kiren Rijiju, Home Secretary, Mr. L.C. Goyal, Defence Secretary, Mr. R.K. Mathur, Additional Secretaries of Ministry External Affairs and Ministry Home Affairs, senior officers from the Embassy of Nepal in India, NDMA, NDRF, MEA and MHA were present in the function.
