Srinagar, August 15 (Vijay Kumar) – The University of Kashmir is all set to host a three-day international conference on Eurasian Peace and Co-operation from August 17.

The Conference titled “Eurasian Peace and Co-operation: Challenges and Opportunities” is being organised by the varsity’s prestigious Centre for Central Asian Studies (CCAS), which recently held an international conference on the “Revival of Silk-Route.”

A large number of delegates from different reputed institutions in India and abroad are expected to participate in the Conference, which, according to officials, will debate the nature and character of multilateral conflicts in Eurasia. “This important conference will focus on addressing the challenges and prospects vis-à-vis finding a lasting solution to these conflicts,” said the conference co-ordinator, Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Kaw.

He said the conference was aimed at promoting peace and co-operation among the otherwise unfriendly Eurasian neighbours. “We are hopeful that the conference will be a great success and the deliberations will address some key issues regarding the Eurasian peace,” Prof Kaw added.

The director, CCAS, Prof G M Mir, said the conference will provide a platform for free and fair debate among the subject experts, area analysts and practitioners on the contemporary issues related to Eurasia.

Saidbeg Saidov, Ambassador, Republic of Tajikistan in India will participate in the conference as the chief guest while Ms. Irina Abdyevna Oralbaeva, Ambassador, Republic of Kyrgyzstan in India will be the guest of honour. The KU vice-chancellor, Prof Riyaz Punjabi will preside over. The conference will be held at the varsity’s Gandhi Bhawan at 11 AM.

Pertinently, the CCAS is the varsity’s premier research centre that holds regular international conferences on issues pertaining to Central Asia.
