A few days ago the UP Chief Minister has been to Bangalore to celebrate the Brotherhood Day".Now she has turned her attention to Tamil Nadu. She arrived in Chennai on Saturday on a two-day visit, hoping to make her party’s inroads into the Dalit votes or the Dalit base of dravidian parties like DMK, AIADMK, PMK, MDMK,DMDK etc and spread some roots in Tamil Nadu, while working towards her ultimate goal of capturing power at the centre. The present UP Chief MInister and a former school teacher even talking of her designs of becoming the Prime Minister of India in the ensuing general elections in the year 2009.
The 51 year UP Chief Minister was to become the first Dalit chief minister of the UP in the year 1995.Her BSP party itself was launched only in the year 1984 and she could capture UP assembly independantly only in the year 2007.Therefore, Ms.Mayavati has been perhaps overambitious of course her lofty ideal may be good.Even in UP a strong groud work alone saw her through.
Though she may be gutsy, she has to contend with strong political leaders and equally charismatic like Ms.Jayalalitha and other leaders of the dravidian parties.
Ms.Mayavati has been accorded a warm reception by the state unit of BSP, naming her as "Behenji" meaning sister. She is addressing a rally in Chennai on Sunday evening and as reported by the state unit president Mr.Armstrong and the rally is attended by mostly dalits from all over the state.Fund raising for the rally began six months ago and according to party sources funds are no problem.
Ms.Mayavati’s proposed meeting with Ms.Jayalalitha at her residence has not been materialised and it was an attempt to alienate her from the Congress I.But it appears AIADMK is not prepared to loose its own base among the dalits.
