UP Gimpong Marks Its First Year

 by Marciano Paroy Jr.

UP Gimpong, the Kalinga-based organization of UP students, shouts out its first anniversary by holding a nine-day celebration (October 22-30) filled with activities worthy of the reputation attached to the school of the Gimpong members.

According to Victor Dalanao, one of the organizers of the event, Hon. Manuel Agyao gave his support to the affair, along with corporate sponsor Northern Star.

The first leg of the celebration (October 22-26) kicks off with a series of film-showing activities that would be brought right into the doorstep of the different participating schools in the community.

“The film to be featured raises awareness on the pressing issue on global warming, as well as to provide venue for them to voice out their concerns,” Mr. Dalanao said. “The organization expects an audience of 300-500 students from Tabuk National High School, Saint Toni’s College, Kalinga-Apayao State College
Tabuk Institute, Saint William’s Academy, Saint Theresita’s School, and Kalinga National High School. We have scheduled to visit two schools per day.”
On October 27 is the thought-provoking forum at Davidson Function Hall that brings out into the open the very timely concern on the cityhood of Tabuk. Aptly titled The Next Big Step, the seminar will be coupled with a leadership training – obviously targeted to SK leaders.

In his on-line press release, Mr. Dalanao said that the seminar will be an opportunity for the youth to learn and be abreast with recent developments in Tabuk.
The activity will then culminate with an inter-high school quiz bee to be participated in by the aforementioned secondary schools. Each participating school selects the members of its three-man team for the “Barainwars” quiz bee. The contest is divided into two categories: Category A is for 1st and 2nd year students, while Category B is the more intellectually challenging level for 3rd and 4th year students.

The quiz bee shall be held at the SWA Gym on October 30. Interested schools must confirm their intent to participate before the 26th by making contact with Mr. Dalanao at 0917-204-3751. As for the seminar at Davidson, participants are encouraged to contact Ms. Shari at 0928-447-3764.

The organization has its official website at http://gimpong.kalingatambayan.com.
