Much to the consternation of the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh who wants clear cut positive answer on the ‘Nuclear Deal’ before the next G8 Summit which he is scheduled to attend in July, his partners in the Government want him to go slow as they prefer the continuance of the Government instead of facing an early elections. This was conveyed to Mrs.Sonia Gandhi by Sharad Pawar, Lallu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan.
Mrs.Gandhi has initiated a process of consultation with the major allies in an attempt to break the stalemate that has cropped between the Prime Minister and the Left. While all these leaders are unanimous in backing the ‘Nuclear Deal’, they are equally vociferous in not sacrificing the Government in the process.
Mr.Pawar believes that the issue could be resolved through dialog;Mr.Lallu Prasad Yadav does not want to give an elbow to BJP to gain strength and all of them want inflation to be tamed.
All-in-all, Mrs.Sonia Gandhi appears to have gained the impression that the deal was not worth if it were to sacrifice the critical relations with the Left.
