There has been conflicting reports about the revenue sharing deadlock between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton. Yesterday, Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions said that Manny has agreed on the 50-50 sharing arrangement after he explained the reasons why he should agree and after assuring him that he won’t be disadvantaged with the arrangement.
However in the latest report by Inquirer.net, it says that ‘As far as Manny Pacquiao is concerned, there is still no deal to the British slugger Ricky Hatton.
‘Manny’s stand is the same, he is not fighting unless the numbers moved to his favor’, according to Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud, friend and adviser of Manny Pacquiao.
‘Pacquiao is demanding 60 % of the fight and pay-per-view purses, a sharing that does not sit well with the Hatton camp, which claimed that a verbal arrangement for a 50-50 split has already been made’.
‘Salud’s statement conflicted with that of Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, who claimed Wednesday that the fight is back on tract after Pacquiao was promised half of the pay-per-view revenue in Britain, where Hatton has a huge following’.
Arum is a bit frustrated about Pacquiao’s hard-line approach to the revenue sharing arrangement.
‘Manny doesn’t understand that this is a fight that he’s never been before. If he is firm about the 50-40, then the fight is not happening, Arum said.
Many of the Pacquiao fans in the Philippines are saying that he should really get the bigger share of the revenue pie because he is the more popular of the two boxers aside from being the ring magazine’s best pound-for-pound boxer of the year. It is but normal, they said, that Manny should have a bigger share but also a billing advantage. There must be a distinction between the two fighters, they said
Earlier today, Bob Arum confirmed that the specific venue is the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao arrived in the Philippines the other day from Los Angeles, California where he attended to his wife Jinkee who has just delivered a baby girl in a Los Angeles hospital. His wife Jinkee remained in Los Angeles as she was not allowed to go with him because the baby is too young to travel.
It was learned that Pacquiao is catching up with his college studies in a local university where he is currently enrolled.
