Missiles believed to have been fired by US pilotless drone aircraft have hit a militant hideout and training camp in Pakistan and a local villager says at least 14 people were killed.
The missiles struck in a Pakistan’s tribal region Kurram district, close to the Afghan border which is safe heaven for militants.
"Taleban militants have sealed off the area and are retrieving bodies from the rubble," said a security official.
Correspondents says this is the fifth drone attack on Pakistan territory since Barack Obama became US president. Pakistan is critical of the tactic because, it says, civilians are often killed, fuelling support for militants.
The target of the missiles was a training camp run by a local Taleban commander. The US does not confirm drone attacks but no other countries have the power to deploy such weapons in the region.
The attack comes as Pakistani opposition figures lead by lawyers stage a so-called long march protest march from Karachi to Islamabad.
