Ash Carter, secretary of defense for the US, just made announcements yesterday about US sending more troops to Iraq in the coming days. The troops that will be sent to Iraq will have a job related more to advising the troops already present there. The presence of the new troops will serve as a shield for the troops already fighting in Iraq. Furthermore, some aviation support will also be pushed in by sending in Apache Helicopters. The US had already been trying to convince the Iraqi government on these new steps and has finally decided to step up.
The new troops will be advising brigades and battalions. This goes to show that the new troops will be going to the front and taking more risk than many of the troops already present in Iraq during any encounters with the opposing forces. The main purpose for the US to send these troops is to assist in an offensive that will be launched by the Iraqi security forces in the coming days. This offensive will be directly against ISIS to take back Mosul that ISIS had taken from the Iraqi security forces nearly 2 years ago.
Carter has paid his 3rd visit to Iraq and he is currently quite actively busy talking about the new action and action plan with Iraqi government and any related personnel. Some other officials related to Carter have said that there will be even more influx of forces from the US in Iraq in the coming days to fight with ISIS and other upcoming offensives from opposing groups. In short, the US has to prepare to take more risk and face more danger in the coming days. Mosul is the second largest city in Iraq and all these actions are being taken to get Mosul back from ISIS.
According to Iraqi Reporter, similar comments about the influx of more force from the US into Iraq had already been given by Joint Chiefs General Joseph Dunford. Dunford had already given the indications that in future the US will be required to send in more troops in Iraq. He had also included Carter in his statement by saying that him and Carter believed it had become inevitable for the US to raise the number of troops present in Iraq in the coming days. Other officials have said that Iraqi security forces cannot fight ISIS force alone and so the US has to involve.
Some steps have already been taken by the US in the recent where the US made use of the tactical aircrafts. These aircrafts are directly damaging ISIS in its battle front line communication. Aircrafts have also been sent to Turkey to fight the ISIS force. This prowler aircraft that has been used against ISIS gives the US forces the power to get into the communications made by ISIS groups. Furthermore, it can also jam any radar and detection systems that ISIS has in place to detect the movements of the US forces in Iraq.
