US is out, Australia is favoured destination for Techies

Australia has become the latest destination for IT professionals and engineers from the state. With the recession hitting the US economy hard, many of the city-based techies are now looking forward to migrating to Australia hoping to better their career prospects.

Australian companies too are keen to rope in techies from Andhra Pradesh by conducting recruitment drives in the city. Also, the relaxed visa rules are making the entry to Australia much easier. "I used to dream of going to America for a better future. But now I decided not to go to the US even if I am offered a better job there as there is job security in Australia when compared to working in the US and Europe," said Y. Karteek Reddy, a techie with a multinational company.

Another IT professional from the city, J. Lavanya, says that her friends who have settled in America are planning to shift to IT companies in Australia. "I am planning to join them soon in Australia," she said. It is estimated that over 15 lakh jobs will be created in the next 10 years with the boom in Australian economy. The recruitment agencies are busy conducting skilled migration programmes to explain the rules and regulations and opportunities to the candidates.

"Australia is currently experiencing a shortage of skilled persons including engineers, HR managers, accountants and doctors. That is precisely why there is a huge demand for professionals now," said Mr Atul Kapoor, the director of one of the recruitment agencies
