Washington: The US army Special Forces soldiers are training the Pakistani troops in their fight against Al-Qaeda and Taliban insurgents in Tribal areas of north western Pakistan, the New York Times reported.
The US secret task force provides the Pakistanis with intelligence and advice on combat tactics but it does not participate in the war itself.
Pakistani army officials said that in 2008, the pentagon had sent some 32 Americans to train the senior personnel of the paramilitary Frontier Corps in north western Pakistan.
But the future strategy will include more than 70 US advisers in the coming days, the combat medics, communication experts, and other specialists.
The Central Intelligence Agency has provided information to the Commando unit in the Frontier Corps, to kill and capture as many as the 60 militants in the recent months.
The Pakistan’s Army chief, General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani is visiting the US this week as the White house and Pentagon review US strategy in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
