The results show concern about the direction of the United States by the growing alarm on a number of issues. The economy of the country is the one issue that had raised the most alarm with those who had taken the survey. Now, this is deemed as the country’s most important problem.
While perceptions continue to drop, most Americans think that this isn’t the worst yet and the worst is yet to come. About three out of every four Americans feel that the United States is off on the wrong track. This matches the highest number recorded in twenty-five years ever since CBS News conducted the survey with that one question in mind.
19% say that the country in the right direction.
This is also relative to the low job approval rating of US President George W. Bush. So far, only 29% approve of Bush’s job rating. Last year it was 30%.
What is left of the approval rating is mainly by Bush’s own party, the GOP. 66% of Republicans still think that George W. Bush is doing a good job. But, 6 out of 10 Independents and 9 out of 10 Democrats think otherwise.
Economy and jobs has trumped Iraq in growing concerns.
61% say that the economy of the country is bad.
About 6 out of 10 Americans thought the war in Iraq was going badly. This also includes the 30% that felt the war was going very badly.
Half of all Americans want the US troops out of Iraq within the next year. About 58% of Americans feel the US made the bad decision into going to Iraq.
