US-Pakistan Blame Game

Pakistan entered in war on terror long before 911, when prior to attacks on WTC Pakistani government started banning militant out fits, which originated during and after completion of American jihad in Afghanistan. After 911 Pakistan Again Became ally of United States and Free world but this time it had to fight war in side its own territory. In this fight against terror Pakistan has lost 3000 soldiers and billion of dollars worth infrastructure.

From Past few months comments are coming from American diplomats and officials in which they criticizing Pakistan for not doing enough in war against Terrorism. The major reason behind the criticism is the humiliation which US felt in Raymond Davis Issue and the failures which it faces today in Afghanistan.

World Politics after 911 is undergoing evolution. Middle East, The oil rich Strategic region is undergoing revolutions and public unrest against autocratic governments. After Tunis and Egypt, people Bahrain Where US 5th Fleet is stationed and borders Qatar where CENTCOM is based, Yemen a Strategic Country having pro US government and Saudi Arabia, the major US ally are facing Public unrest in Shia dominated areas. Then there is Libyan crisis where US is supporting Anti Qaddafi forces to kick out Chinese oil interests.

The whole Middle East is in mess and US wants to divert all its resources and concentration to contain Middle East crisis and for that want a way out of Afghanistan.

Pakistan is in state of civil war because of its part in War on Terror. Whole nation is in living in constant fear and uncertainty…  in fear of suicide bombings and other acts of terror. .. Tehrik e Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorists have caused thousands of deaths and billions of Dollars worth loss.

Keeping aside American and western allegation here in this essay we will discuss why US and NATO are playing Blame Game against Pakistan.

US invasion of Afghanistan came as a Blessing for non Pashtun anti Taliban war lords. It gave chance to these notorious war lords to take revenge from Pashtuns in the name of anti Taliban actions. In 2002 alone more than 80000 Pashtuns were forced to leave Northern Afghanistan to escape prosecution from the hands of Tajik and Uzbek war lords.

Hamid Karzai was made president with overwhelming majority of those who were anti Pashtun Northern alliance commanders. Steps were Taken without doing any research on Afghan especially Pashtun tribal culture, resulting in making the largest ethnic group hostile. On wrong and bias intelligence hundreds may be thousands of innocent people were killed and then without apology were labeled as Collateral Damage and non Pashtuns who even were not Pashtu speakers were given charge of Pashtun areas with free hand to rule like master of their areas.

Unfortunately US and ISAF have  learned nothing from past mistakes. Wall Street Journal reported on 21st April 2011 that still in Afghan north non Pashtun ethnic militias are fueling tensions in Pashtun areas.

The collateral damage and lack of understanding of culture and scandals like killing for Fun are fueling Pashtun sentiments and that is why those who prior to afghan invasion were considered anti Taliban Pashtuns are joining Taliban resistance.

According to Times on line  US and NATO are indirectly financing Taliban in Afghanistan

"The West is indirectly funding the insurgency in Afghanistan thanks to a system of payoffs to Taliban commanders who charge protection money to allow convoys of military supplies to reach NATO bases in the south of the country…, ”times on line, December 12, 2008)

The corruption in Afghan government has reached new heights under the watch full eyes of Americans and NATO. Not a drop trickled into Afghan people.

US and European media is  propagating  that West is pumping billion of dollars in reconstruction of Afghanistan but in reality the money  is only helping  Afghan elite and western workers in reconstruction of their wealth , in words of  Patrick Cockburn, a well know Irish Journalist and Expert

"Vast sums of money are being lavished by Western aid agencies on their own officials in Afghanistan at a time when extreme poverty is driving young Afghans to fight for the Taliban. The going rate paid by the Taliban for an attack on a police checkpoint in the west of the country is $4, but foreign consultants in Kabul, who are paid out of overseas aids budgets, can command salaries of $250,000 to $500,000 a year"…(Kabul’s New Elite, Counter Punch Weekend Edition
May 1 – 3, 2009)

Pakistan which is doing more than it has strength to do. Pakistan has given results in this War and pentagon itself in Past has in reckoned it. Pakistan has sacrificed about 3000 Soldiers compare to 2415 soldiers of ISAF combine.

Pakistani forces are fighting in all tribal agencies and out of 19 divisions around 11 are involve in counter terrorism in some way or another. US is pressuring Pakistan to launch operation in North Waziristan agency without realizing that Pakistani forces are at stretch to limits. Any operation in NWA will have grave consequences on all ready battered Pakistani Economy and society. US could have helped Pakistan if it had secured Kunar and Nuristan in Afghan North which have become safe heavens for TTP Mohmand, Bajor and Swat.

Pakistani forces flush out militants who retreat to Kunar and Regroup to re launch there activates. At least thrice Forces declared cleaning Bajor but safe havens in Afghanistan helped militants to regroup and fight another day. Last Year International Press reported the Presence of Mullah Fazalullah of swat in Nuristan which is an eye opener.

Pakistan is busy in its own war. It has its own preference. When US and ISAF is not interested in making Kunar and Nuristan safe and want Pakistan to be pinned down in Bajor ,Mohmand and Dir then how can Pakistan go to NWA without appropriate Force.

Secondly the Propaganda of US aid to Pakistan is only a propaganda and in reality we are losing more then what we are getting. why should Pakistan destroy what is left. Finance minister in his talk in Woodrow Wilson Centre for Policy said “There is a perception that there is a lot of money going to Pakistan, It is largely a myth that Pakistan is a beneficiary of tens of billions of dollars. The truth is that in the Kerry-Lugar-Berman arrangement this year we have not even received $300 million…"

US is a Great Power. The greatness lies in Truth.  If west especially US think it is great then it should try to repair the damage its policies caused and accept the blame and stop blaming Pakistan.
