The win for the Iowa caucuses which is the first step towards the 2008 US presidential election has been claimed by Barack Obama for the Democrats and Mike Huckabee for the Republicans. Now, it would be time to prepare for the New Hampshire primaries taking place on February 8.
Both Iowa and New Hampshire will be the two places that will either make or break candidates. The major candidates will be fanning out across New Hampshire to attend numerous political events before the primary vote takes place on January 8.
In Iowa, Barack Obama won the Democratic caucuses by a clear margin. He had defeated by John Edwards and Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama had won thirty-eight percent of the vote while John Edwards had won thirty percent.
On Friday, Obama said: “Last night the American people began down the road to change.
“And four days from now, New Hampshire, you have the chance to change America.”
In the Iowa Republican caucuses, Mike Huckabee won thirty-four percent of the vote. According to analysts, Huckabee had help from the Evangelical Christians. Mitt Romney got twenty-five percent of the votes coming in at a distant second place.
Huckabee said on Friday: “We only have a few days to close the sale, but I think the momentum coming out of Iowa is going to be good for us.”
According to analysts, Romney’s campaign will be destroyed if he loses in New Hampshire.
Chris Dodd and Joe Biden are dropping out of the Democratic primaries after losing in Iowa.
Rudy Giuliani still leads in the Republican national polls. Instead of campaigning in Iowa, Giuliani focused on larger states like Florida.
On Saturday, Wyoming will hold a Republican caucus. However, none of the Republican candidates have announced any plans to head for that contest.
