What could be favorable for presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and unfavorable for presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona is still a demand and stipulation from the Iraqi government. It was yesterday that Iraq’s government demanded that all US combat troops must leave the country within two years. To be more specific, Iraq’s government has demanded that US combat troops leave by the end of 2010.
This was after Obama, during his Iraq visit, had a talk with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Still, this could play in favor for Obama who is focused on troop withdrawals. However, this is opposed by McCain. Ali al-Dabbagh, the spokesman for the Iraqi government explains it would depend on the security situation on the ground.
Back in March, a Pentagon study released explains that the problem that prolonged Iraq reconstruction was the security situation. It added that the problem that affected the security situation was government corruption.
However, it puts McCain in an interesting predicament. According to the McCain campaign, Al-Maliki assured that they opposed a timetable for withdrawing US combat troops.
The fact of the matter is that Iraq’s government has demanded that all US troops withdraw by late 2010.
We can bank that this will not be that we will hear upon such in issue. This brings to the matter of the hot topic of Iraq. It is inevitable that both Obama and McCain will be debating on Iraq. When they do, expect either one of them to bring up the issue of this demand.
Only thing we can do would be to wait for one of them to bring it up. There’s definitely going to be much talk about this in the near future.
