Srinagar, April 16, (Scoop News)- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said the opportunistic alliance between National Conference and Congress has nothing in common except the lust for power and that is why both parties tried to mislead the people without caring for the consequences.
Addressing large number of political workers from Kupwara district who joined the party today Mufti said the Congress promise of a union territory for Ladakh in its local manifesto is an election time gimmick which has been introduced for votes but without realizing that it is constitutionally impossible.
More than 400 political workers belonging largely to the Gujjar community, Pahari section and others joined the party today at Mufti’s Gupkar residence.
Under the leadership of veteran Gujjar leaders, Choudry Salam-u-Din and Choudry Siraj-u-Din they were welcomed into the party fold besides Mufti by the party’s condidate for Baramulla parliamentary constituency, Muzzafar Hussain Baig, Abdul Haq Khan, district president and MLA, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, general secretary, Choudry Zulfikar Ali, MLA, Mian Javaid Nizami, Choudry Nizam U Din Khatana , Deen Mohammad Cheetah, Fayaz Ahamd Mir, Adv Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Afzal Wani, Tajir Sayeed and Mohd Maqbool Dar.
Among others who also joined PDP on this occasion include Noor MOhd Shah Member Pahari board, Fayaz Ahmad prominent Social Worker, Mohd Yaseen Lone Block president Congress Kralpora, Peer Assadullah deputy Vlock President Congress Kralpora, Haji Mohammd Akber Block Secretary Congress Kralpora, Noorudin Bhat, Choudry Javaid Tass Gujjar leader, Ab Majeed Bhat Block organiser Congress, Haji Ab Khaliq Lone Halqa President PC Kawari, Choudhry Iqbal Board member , Ab Rehman Khan PC Kawari, Gh Rasool Wani NC Kawari, Gh Ahmad Khan Kawari.
Mufti said the NC can’t escape its responsibility from the Congress manifesto and it must explain its position as an alliance partner in the UPA.
“On the one hand the NC is shedding crocodile tears about article 370 and preservation of special status of J&K and on the other hand they are trying to dismember the state and take a territory out of it,” he said and wondered what kind of a preservation of state’s interest the NC is talking about?
He said hoodwinking has been an old tactic of NC to stay in power but it is ridiculous that they still feel that people would trust their word.
Mufti said the NC-led government has been making fancy claims about all issues but have not been able to bring relief to a single life in the state except enriching their own selves.
He referred to the so-called rehabilitation scheme for those people who had gone across the Line-of-Control (LoC) and said the entire families of the unfortunate men have been deceived and put into all kinds of trouble.
He said the recent incident in which a lady committed suicide because her family like others had been abandoned by the government after having returned to their homes in search of a dignified life is a stark reminder of how the present government is playing with the lives of people.
Mufti said in his enthusiasm to compete with the historic initiatives taken by the PDP led govt, Omar Abdullah had introduced a half-baked policy which has resulted in more miseries for those people who had been pushed by the wrong policies of NC to pick up guns.
“Once these people who had left their homes as young men came back along with families they were left high and dry. These people are now facing problems of unsettled nationality, economic sustenance and schooling of their children but nobody has addressed their problems so far,” he said.
Mufti said PDP has a vision and an agenda for all sections of society and it was heartening to see that we are receiving a positive response from every region and communities.
Speaking on the occasion Muzzafar Hussain Baig said NC had exploited all sections of the society but Gujjar community has been the worst victim of its exploitative policies.
He said the highly self-respected and innocent community was always used to provide audience for the NC leadership to address public meetings and used their votes to come to power and then abandon them.
That resulted in continued deprivation, illiteracy and backwardness of most members of this community.
Baig said if the PDP came to power it would create a ministry specially for the tribal welfare.
He said that would ensure that the funds earmarked for the targeted development of this community are utilized in a judicious manner so that they could attain the desired level of development.
He said the Gujjar and Pahari communities have been living in complete harmony with other sections of the society but the fact that they generally reside in remote and hilly areas has prevented the fruits of development reaching them in adequate manner.
He said connectivity being an important feature of PDP’s agenda these communities would benefit a great deal in all development schemes once the PDP gets a full endorsement from people in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
He said the PDP’s agenda for connecting the two halves of erstwhile state by opening traditional routes would bring entire J&K out of the post partition siege but Gujjar and Pahari communities would benefit even more as majority of them reside in the forward areas and suffer from the division of families across the LoC.
“They would become citizens of a larger world with the implementation of the party’s Self-Rule agenda,” Baig said.
