Mianchannu, Pakistan: At least 11 killed and 15 injured when a van carrying students of a local primary school rammed in to a train at an unmanned railway crossing near Mianchannu.
The van hit the Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express at a railway crossing without any barrier and man, due to thick fog, the driver could not see the train and he tried to cross the track.
Soon after the accident, the injured were rushed to the nearby hospitals, moreover, the driver of the van also died.
The angry mob later on blocked the main road and railway track and protested at the negligence of the government,leaving the railway crossing without any barrier and unmanned.
The Federal Minister for Railways, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour announced Rs. 500, 000 compensation for each family whose children died in the accident, he also announced Rs. 200, 000 for each of the critically injured children.
Pak Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani asked the relevant authorities to build a barrier at the Railway crossing within next 48 hours.
