Traffic restored at Yarkhun valley road.
CHITRAL (APP): After passing a long time for suspension of Vehicular traffic to the Yarkhun valley has been restored to the entire valley as the main bridge had broken at Yarkhun river at Brep village some 3 years ago. Tender of the same was awarded to a local contractor and he started the work but left ongoing work of the bridge incomplete. A long and swelling and suspension pedestal bridge was temporarily arranged over the river which was most dangerous and a student also had died when he was trying to cross the River. Construction was left incomplete and started again in this hide and seek people of two valleys passed to suffer for three years. Hence the vehicular traffic was restored on the Bridge not because the government has constructed the destroyed bridge near Khotanlasht but because the water level in the river has decreased and the local people have built a temporary bridge once again over the river on a self-help basis. Shahzada Sikandarul Mulk Tehsil Nazim Mastuj told APP.
This has been the case since 2006 when the only bridge linking the valley with other parts of the district was washed away. One day work on the reconstruction of the bridge starts and the next day it closes due to unknown reasons.
It seems that there is no authority that can come to the help of the people and make the contractor bound to construct the bridge. Even after four years, the locals are not sure when this bridge will be reconstructed and there will be an end to their hardships. It is worth to mention here that bridge at Brep village over Yarkhun River linking inhabitants of entire two valleys Broghul situated on Pak Tajikistan Border and valley of Yarkhun situated on Pak Afghan border area with the district. Residents of these two valley have appeal to Federal as well Provincial government for re-constructing the damaged bridge immediately to solve the communication problem as in present scenario inhabitants of these downtrodden valleys carrying wheat, flour, rice and bags of edible thing on their back due to no source and no facility for vehicles and they are compelled to carry these thing on their backs crossing this dangerous pedestal bridge by feet.
