Vernita Lee, the mother of beloved television host and celebrity Oprah Winfrey has been sued for $150,000 by the fashion store Valentina for unpaid store bill.
Valentina’s attorneys say that Vernita Lee shopped at the Brookfield, Wisconsin store and racked up a debt of $150,000 in charges and interest since 2004. Lee was required to make monthly payments of $2,000 to pay off the bill, but when she stopped Wednesday and would not negotiate with the store out of court, Valentina filed the suit.
Vernita Lee says that she does not owe the store any money. She is scheduled to appear in court on September 19 to answer to the complaint. Neither she nor her daughter were available for comment.
