Victory Day : Nation demands trial of war criminals

Bangladesh celebrates the 36th victory day on 16th December. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani Army surrendered to the Bangladeshi Libaration force in Dhaka, ending a 9 month war of independence. Nation will pay grateful homage to those illustrious sons of the soil who made the supreme sacrifice at the Liberation War. Focal demand of victory day of this year is trial of the war criminals. 

DECEMBER 16th marks "Victory Day" for Bangladesh after it achieved independence from Pakistan. This feat of independence came after 9 months of a long and bloody struggl. During the libaration war of 1971, pakistan occupation army in collaboration with the anti-laibaration forces (Jamat, Muslim league etc. islamic fundmentalist groups) of Bangladesh killed a total of 3 millions unarmed peoples among with women, literates, public servants, artists, intellectuals, religious minorities, youth, educated and others. Pakistan army and their collaborates tortured and raped about 4,50,000 women.

The Pakistani occupation forces killed Bengali intellectuals and professionals on December 14, 1971. This day is called the "Martyred Intellectuals Day". Nation observes `The Martyred Intellectuals Day’ on 14th every year.

The criminals of Bangladesh liberation war were never tried and they have never apologized for their crimes to the nation.

Demands for trial of war criminals were raised with renewed force recently when Jamaat leaders claimed that there is no war criminal in the country and the Liberation War in 1971 was nothing but a civil war. Different pro-liberation political parties, socio-cultural organizations and the freedom fighters raised voice against the war criminals and asked the government to begin trial of the war criminals. People of Bangladesh demand the trial of those war criminals.

Razu Ahmed: Razu Ahmed is a Bangladeshi journalist has been engaged in media 2000 when he was a student of Bengali literature in the university of Dhaka. After having completed his schooling he had chosen journalism as his profession. Now he is working for Boishakhi TV (A Bengali TV Chennel) as an Economic Reporter. Before this he was working for The Daily Ajker Kagoj as an Economic Reporter since 1st September 2003 to 20th September 2007. He was also worked with Weekly Ekota, the Weekly 2000 and Weekly Khaborer Kagoj. He have written various articles about different topics Such as trade, economic issues, environment, history, biodiversity, gender and international affairs.

The core areas of his professional interests include Poverty, trade, macro economy and related issues. As a Panos South Asia Fellow, he has done research on poverty reduction strategy and PRSP of Bangladesh.

Razu ahmed hails from Village Kajirgaon under Loyhajong of Munshigonj district. He has completed various workshop and training on Journalism, trade and economic issues.
