BEIJING, China — On August 10, 2008 GroundReport correspondent Noel Hidalgo videotaped the alleged theft of a journalist’s passport by Chinese security officials. Earlier, the journalist had been filming Tibetan protests in Tiananmen Square.
In this video the journalists shouts, "Pickpocket!" and screams, "this man has my passport" in an effort to regain his property. Ten minutes later, the passport was returned.
Mr. Hidalgo’s travel to Beijing was sponsored by the activist group Students for a Free Tibet. He was deported from China later that day on August 10, 2008 for photographing and documenting protests.
