… Changing workforce patterns and expectations call for length of service review …
Milton Keynes, UK – Thursday 19th November 2015 – The Voucher Shop, a specialist provider of employee rewards and benefits, has released a free video guide to help organisations create and facilitate a long service award.
The free video guide, titled, “Length of service awards’ is hosted by Kuljit Kaur, motivation expert at The Voucher Shop. The guide covers questions such as, why should organisations recognise length of service? How often should these types of rewards be presented? What are the practicalities of managing a long service award programme? And what are the expected results?
Kuljit Kaur, Head of Business Development at The Voucher Shop, explains, “With many employees now choosing to remain within an organisation for just two to four years there is a common belief that long service awards are no longer an effective motivator of today’s transient workforce. This simply isn’t the case. Recognition of long service continues to have a place in the reward mix, but they must evolve in line with the changing needs and expectations of employees.”
According to a recent workplace reward survey conducted by The Voucher Shop, more than a third of employees (35%) don’t know when they are eligible for a long service award, and 68% believe that such awards are not celebrated within their business. Therefore high profile presentation and communication of awards is essential.
Kaur adds, “The days of rewarding with a gold watch or carriage clock are long gone. It is however imperative that employers consider rewarding shorter timeframes of service so that staff recognise that their loyalty and contribution is valued. The awards must also be presented in the right way and give the employee a memorable experience. If this is achieved then loyalty awards provide a welcome morale boost at key periods of reflection in an employee’s career.”
