Vijayakanth’s Arasangam, an Action Thriller is worth the Penny

In the midst of not too many movies being released by Kollywood and flop of even top-rated hero’s movies like ‘Kuruvi’, Captain Vijayakanth’s ‘Arasangam’ comes in as a breather.

The movie is worth watching not because of fact that it has attempted something totally new in regard to the storyline, but because of the simple fact that there are no ‘masalas’ as an illfitting item number or illogical stunts and oneupmanship making the hero supreme.

Briefly, the script is about finding out the killer of Manoj a cop in the Ant-terrorist squad by his friend criminologist Arivuarasu( played by Vijayakanth). Manoj on a special assignment to Chennai gets killed in the flight even before he takes up his assignment. Simultaneously, some best brains in the Country also get killed. This prompts the Union Home Minister (played by Ravichandran) to order an investigation and the rest of the story is made up as to how Vijayakanth unravels this mystery. One has to watch the movie to find how this gets unravelled.

More than the movie, the shrewed tactics of Vijayakanth could have contributed to the success of the movie. He has deliberately avoided the punch dialogues directed at those who are opposed to his political idealogies. By making a public statement prior to its release that he is open to forging alliances with any polical party which would  do good to Tamilnadu, he has avoided the loyalty divide which could have prevented the loyalists of other parties in watching his movie.

The net result of the above measures coupled with a decent script played well is reflected in the higher box-office openings and in sustaining the success of the movie in B & C Territories.
