Vodacom says it has invested over $2 billion to expand its network in order to reach more people in Tanzania. Speaking at the Leon Sullivan Viii summit held in the country june 2 to 6, Dietlof Mare, managing director, Vodacom Tanzania, said the company is determined to expand its network so as to serve more people particularly those living in the rural areas.

Vodacom Tanzania is an official commmunication network during the summit connecting it to the world through its wide and modern network. The summit delegates sent and received information and data as they happen through Vodacom’s internet connection powered by 3G.
According to Mare, Vodacom also wanted to create more employment opportunities so as to curb poverty. To date the company has employed more than 50,000 people.” All these efforts are aimed at improving the country’s economy and reducing poverty among the people”, he said.
Hope Masters, president of the Sullivan Foundation, commended Vodacom for its association in the summit. She said as the communication sponsor, Vodacom has played a big role to make the summit become the first of its kind. The summit attracted more than 4,000 participants including word prominent figure like Andrew Young and Jesse Jackson.
