The Indonesian government has called on its citizens to vote online for the Komodo National Park to become one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. People can vote on http://www.new-7wonders.com. The voting period for each category will be closed by July 7. The park now ranks 9th among 56 nominees in the category of Forest, National Parks and Nature Reserves.
The Culture and Tourism Ministry said it would have several cities on the campaigning agenda for the park , starting with Bandung between June 15 and 21, in Cihampelas Walk, with pop band concerts completed with booth for people to directly vote the park online. Yogyakarta is next.
Sapta Nirwanda, the ministry’s director general of marketing, said, “The Komodp National Park is one of our most precious treasures. Around the world, we can only find the Komodo giant reptile in this park.”
Since the wonders can only be voted online currently – with options of SMS voting in the next phase – Sapta Nirwanda encouraged Indonesians to vote for the Komodo National Park, adding, “Indonesia welcomes anybody around the world to vote for the park, and also visit the wonderful place”.
