Several functions in this connection were held at all the district headquarters where District Election Officers (Deputy Commissioners) presided over the functions. The functions were attended by Booth Level Officers, Enumerators, Young Boys and Girls who had attained the age of 18 years and have become eligible for casting vote.
Meanwhile, various functions were also held in District Srinagar including Deputy Commissioners Office Complex, Bemina Degree College, Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Similar functions were also held at Budgam, Ganderbal, Shopian, Anantnag, Kulgam, Bandipora, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Handwara.
In district Srinagar 18402 voter identity cards and in district Budgam 1905 voter cards have been issued to Booth Level Officers for ongoing distribution among the voters while in district Kupwara 929 voter cards have been issued to three Lolab Assembly Constituencies by the District Election Officer, Kupwara.
In Bandipora 250, in Kulgam 1272, in Anantnag 951, in Shopian 927 and in Pulwama 205 voter cards have been issued to Booth Level Officers to distribute among the voters.
In connection with the celebration of first “National Voters Day January 25, 2011” an impressive function was organized in Govt. Degree College Poonch in collaboration with District Administration here today.
District Election Officer (DDC) Poonch, Kuldip Lal Khajuria presided over the function whereas SSP Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, Addl. Dy. Commissioner Mohd Matloob Khan, Principal Degree College G. L. Sharma, prominent citizens including K.K. Kapoor, President Bar Association Sanjay Raina, Principal Govt. HSS (G) Poonch, Officers of the District Administration, Professors of the Degree College and students of Educational Institution attended.
D.E.O. and other speakers give a detailed account regarding aims and objectives of declaring January 25 as National Voters Day henceforth. Speakers highlighting the importance of right to vote as fundamental right of each male and female adult who attains age of 18 years as Ist January each year. They impressed upon the adults that judicious exercise of vote is the object and idea of Indian constitution. This right makes a voter a responsible citizen and expect his role in development and promotion of nationhood as a responsible citizen.
Election Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) were distributed among 501 new adults of Haveli Constituency who attain the age of 18 years on Ist January, on the occasion. Giving details DEO said that there are 257392 voters already enlisted in the District whereas additional 1378 new adults are being added to the voter list of the District.
1239 for Mendhar Constituency, 638 for Surankote constituency and 501 for Haveli constituency have been added.
There are 373 polling booths in the District and all new adults are being provided EPICs at their Polling Booths today.
A massive rally of adult students was carried out at the culmination of the function passed through the markets of the town reciting slogans “We have full faith over Indian Constitution and democratic set up of Indian Polity”, “We will exercise the right of vote without fear, favour or coercion”. Earlier in oath was also administered by DEO asserting full faith over Indian Constitution and Democracy. All the young adults were jubilant on receiving EPICs for casting right of vote for the first time and to take active part in development of the country. National Voters Day was celebrated with lot of excitement and elation amongst the youth of Sub Division during the function organized at the office complex of Sub Divisional Magistrate where Sub Divisional Magistragte Dudu-Bansantgarh, Mr Amit Sharma chaired the various sets of programmes organized for the said purpose. A special feature of the programme was the participation of good number of youngsters, filled with lot of inquisitiveness and excitement, participated in the programme in spite of the fact that this region falls in Winter Zone and all educational institutions are closed on account of long winter vacations.
The celebrations of National Youth Day began with throwing light on everlasting democratic values of Indian democracy and its most potent tool i.e., Right to Vote. It was followed by expression of views about voting and elections by various prominent citizens of Sub Division. The young voters were also involved to present their thoughts and send a strong message for voting amongst all sections of society.
Later on, SDM over Voter ID Cards to five youngsters who had attained the voting eligibility age on or after January 1, 2011. It was followed by a pledge taking ceremony in which all the people present at the venue took the pledge to uphold dignity of elections and vote in the elections without any fear, inducement or influence, especially the younger lot who hold the future of nations in their hands due to the universal power of voting.
Finally, SDM in his presidential address, requested all the people to take active part in voting as it can lead to a better future for them and the practice of even abstaining from it should also be given up. He laid special focus on youth awareness towards the Right to Vote and educated them to develop a habit to vote on all occasions without ant prejudice or fear and spread the same message to all friends and society.
To increase the enrollment of voters and also to spread awareness amongst the general public about their most important right to vote, First National Voter’s Day was celebrated at District Headquarters Udhampur here today.
The District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner), Udhampur, Baseer Ahmed Khan who was the chief guest on the occasion highlighted the importance of the day. He said that the objective of this day was to aware the general masses to increase the enrollment of voters so that maximum number of voters could participate in the electoral process.
DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Mr Jagjit Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Surinder Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Rajinder Singh, Additional District Development Commissioner, Ram Rattan Sharma, Chief Planning Officer, H.H. Dutt, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, S. Gurvinderjeet Singh, tehsildars, representative of social and Non Governmental Organizations, citizens and students in large number were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, District Election Officer handed over EPICs to number of electors registered in the electoral rolls for the first time. The newly entered voters also provided badges with the inscription “Proud to be a Voter – Ready to Vote” and Booth Level Officers were given identity cards on behalf of the Election Commission of India as mark of their individuality.
Later, an awareness rally comprising young students drawn from colleges and schools was flagged off by the District Election Officer from Deputy Commissioners Office complex. The students carrying placards in their hands with slogans like “ Vote a Tool That’s Most Powerful”, “ Vote to Root, Vote Also to Uproot”, “ Elect to Select Get the Most Perfect” etc after passing thorough main locations of the Udhampur town finally culminated at the starting point.
The District Election Officer also administered a pledge to all the participants to up hold the dignity of elections and vote in the elections without any fear, inducement or influence.
In connection with Celebration of voter’s day, a rally was held at Basohli which started from Ram Lila ground passing through bus stand main bazaar and culminated at Ram Lila ground at Basohli today.
SDM Mr P.L Attri was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that we should aware the voters about their right of franchise and we should choose good candidates who have the capacity to root out the social evils from the society and who have the ability to mitigate the suffering of the people. The students of various schools presented short dramas depicting right of franchise.
On the occasion, Mr Attri handed over voter identity cards to youth who have attained the age of 18 years.
Speaking on the occasion he said we must cast our vote. He said that we should vote for the development of the area and if area develops state will develop and if state develops the country will automatically develop.

As per the directions of Election Commission of India and instructions of Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, the National Voters Day was celebrated in the District of Samba wherein the Electors drawn from different Blocks of District participated in the function at District Level.
On the occasion, a rally was also organized by District Administration which was attended by Booth Level Officers, Supervisors and general public especially the students, Voters were carrying placards inscribed with slogans like “ Don’t Tell Me Your Mobile No., Tell me your Voter Id”, “Proud to be a Voter”.
District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh while speaking on the occasion impressed upon the voter for greater participation in the elections for strengthening the democracy in the State and also exhorted the Booth Level Officers and other functionaries present on the occasion as well as the General Public to spread message for participation in the Election Process enthusiastically so as to ensure that the Democratic System in the State and Country become stronger.
