VP awards ten young scientists in 8th JK Science Congress

Srinagar, September 17 (Scoop News)-   During the inaugural ceremony of 8th J&K Science Congress today, 10 young scientists of the State were awarded with J&K Young Scientists award for the year 2010. The awards have been instituted by J&K State Council for Science & Technology.

The awards were given away by the Vice President of India,  Muhammad Hamid Ansari.

Governor,  N. N. Vohra, Chief Minister,  Omar Abdullah, Minister for Science & Technology, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, President, Indian National Science Academy, Prof. Krishan Lal, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Talat Ahmad, judges of the J&K High Court, vice chancellors of IUST, BGBS and Central University of Kashmir, Chief Secretary, DGP, officers of state government, former vice chancellors of Kashmir University and scholars and scientists attending the three day congress were present on the occasion.

The awardees young scientists include Dr. Reyazul Rouf s/o A. R. Mir of SKUAST, Jammu in the field of Agriculture and allied sciences, Dr. Mubashir Masoodi s/o Prof. Mohammad Qasim Masoodi, r/o, Baramulla of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kashmir University for his outstanding work on Kashmir’s medicinal plants.

Mrs. Shaima w/o, Mohammad Ahsan Chishti of Department of Computer Sciences, NIT, Hazratbal for her contribution in the field of Mathematics, Statistics & Computer Sciences, Dr. Sunil Wanchoo of SMVDU, Jammu for his contribution in the field of Physical Sciences, Dr. Sandeep Dogra s/o I. C. Dogra of GMC, Jammu for his contribution to Health & Medical Sciences.

Dr. Firdous Khanday  s/o R. A. Khanday of Kashmir University and Dr. Parvinder Kumar s/o Satpal Bhagat, University of Jammu for their contribution to life sciences. Dr. Muzamil Jan, d/o N. M. Zaroo of Kashmir University for her contribution to Home/Social Sciences and Dr. Monika Gupta d/o V. P. Gupta, Jammu University for her contribution to Chemical Sciences.

On the occasion, an abstract book of the Science Congress was released.  The abstract book comprises 867 abstracts from 1448 researchers from within and outside the state.

As a token of love and warmth, the dignitaries were gifted with traditional Kashmiri Samovars on the occasion.
