SIALKOT:Wajihud Din Ahmad has urged the lawyers (intending to contest the coming general elections) across the country to withdraw their nomination papers and boycott these elections for the "freedom of the country’s supreme judiciary from the government".
He was addressing a largely attended meeting of the local lawyers at District Bar Association (DBA), here, in this evening. He said the country’s all the political parties should boycott the January 08,2008 general elections for upholding the prestige of country’s supreme judiciary, as it would also be another noble way to oust the army dictators from the power.
He said earlier, the political parties had not come up to the expectations of the nation during the judiciary crisis in the country.
He said it was high time for the political parties, lawyers and journalists to join their hand for launching a nationwide another anti-Musharraf strike, in this regard.
Justice Wajih said that doffing of the army uniform by President Pervez Musharraf was the first most awaited step of success of country’s lawyers’ principled stance.
He hoped the lawyers’ community would boycott the coming general election in the larger national interest, as these polls have no legal and constitutional justification.
Meanwhile, addressing a meeting of Daska Bar Association, Justice (r) Wajih said the there was no legal justification of all those judges who administrated oath under the PCO.
On the occasion, the two local lawyers candidates PPP’s Ch Jamil Akhtar advocate, Daska Bar Association president, and PTI’s Mehmoodul Husnain advocate announced to withdraw their nomination papers from constituency PP-130 (Daska) to express complete solidarity with country’s oppressed lawyers community and media, in this regard.
Earlier, he was accorded warm welcome upon his arrival at Daska and Sialkot and he was brought to the local bar associations in a shape of big processions of the vehicles and the lawyers. Who were also holding the welcoming banners and placards and they chanted anti-Musharraf slogans.

Medical stores fleecing poor patients: Medical stores, outside AIM Hospital, are overcharging the poor patients, claim patients.
They alleged that medical stores around the private hospitals were not only overcharging the patients but were also selling substandard medicines. They do not bother to issue cash memo to their customers.
Owner of these stores say that they pay heavy amount every month to the hospital administration to overcharge the patients and nobody can stop them.
Wheat to be cultivated in 15.8m acres in Punjab: As many as 15.80 million acres of land would be brought under cultivation during Rabi season in wheat growing parts of the Punjab.
The agriculture department has finalised necessary arrangements in the province. The department would provide full assistance and guidance to the wheat growers for attaining better output of the crop.
In district, the wheat would be cultivated at over 493,000 acres of land in Sialkot, Daska, and Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils.
The department has launched farmers’ training programme in 1,444 villages of district aimed at providing latest agricultural techniques and information to the wheat growers.
As many as 47 teams of agriculture department were visiting village to village for creating awareness about the proper use of fertilizers and pesticides.
The farmers training programme was being monitored by the agriculture department at village, tehsil and district level.
