Army: We’ve won minds of Kashmiris

Baramulla, March 1A top Army official Saturday hailed Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for holding what he called free, fair and transparent elections “despite putting his chair at stake.”
Talking to a group of journalists at Sopore, Brigadier Rawat (Commander 10 Sector Pattan) said the peaceful elections in the neighbouring country and the landslide victory of “moderate forces” was a “good omen especially for Kashmir.”
About the Kashmir situation, Brig Rawat said, “There is a sea-change already in the situation here; it’s heartening to see that the people have softened their approach here and have started using terms like ‘Union budget’ in place of ‘Indian budget’.”
“This shows that we have won over the minds of the people in Kashmir,” the official said.
“I was very happy some days back seeing the protest demonstration by people against the local government for scarcity of drinking water. This shows the faith of the people in democracy,” Brig Rawat said.
