DARJEELING/SILIGURI: "We are in favour of a peaceful solution of problems in the Hills. We are presently not pursuing this issue aggressively because we do not want to create any complications before the November Tripartite Meeting," said State Home Secretary Mohan Chakraborty. "We are prepared to act against GL numbers according to Law. We are also deliberating on the issue of replacing West Bengal Government signboards by Gorkhaland Government signboards.Though this is will be an illegal act, we will react as and when that will happen."
When inquired about the GL numbered vehicles being seized in Siliguri, Chakraborty said, "GL numbers are illegal. And as such the people commandeering the vehicles are illegal. Naturally, such people will be persecuted Motor Vehicles act. But the Police is presently not acting on this issue in the Hills. There is a possibility of Tripartite Meeting in the end of November. We are not reacting to any of things happening in the Hills because we do not want to spoil the environment of the Tripartite Meeting. The Government is presently not in the mood for confrontation. We will try to convince the leaders to not replace the Government signboards with their own. We have received petitions fromSiliguri based Jana Chetna and Jana Jagaran requesting us to take steps on GL numbered vehicles. We will take stern actions against those who try to harass drivers and passengers and create violence."
