Pakistan GLOF Project installed the first ever Automatic Weather station at Bindu Gol Upper Chitral of Pakistan
Chitral: The equipment will enable specialists to monitor Glacier melting & rainfall pattern in the surrounding areas of Mustuj Sub Division Chitral.
Hamid Ahmad Mir, Field Manager Pakistan GLOF Project stationed at Chitral said that the new weather station at Bindu Gol is equipped to measure Climatic related disaster like Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and improves early warning system. This is the first time that climatic data will be available for upper Chitral which will contribute for the development agriculture and forestry besides having rational data on the rain fall and stream water discharge said Hamid Ahmad.
“Climate change is arguably the most significant conservation challenge we face today. Global warming threatens the integrity of the ecosystem of Chitral, and the automatic weather station installed at Bindu Gol will enable to study the climate change and its consequences on the susceptible ecosystem of upper Chitral” stated by Shahfiqullah Khan, Field Biologist associated With World Wide Fund for Nature Pakistan at Chitral.
