Welfare of martyrs’ families’ priority of JK Police

 

Jammu,April 25 (Scoop News) –     The Director General of Police (DGP),  Kuldeep Khoda, today sanctioned over Rs. 6 lakhs scholarship in favour of 217 school going children of  personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The wards include children of those police personnel, who laid down their lives while protecting public property and human lives. Scholarships have also been sanctioned in favour of meritorious wards who secured distinction in 8th class examination during the academic session (2009-2010).

The scholarships were announced by Director General of Police after chairing a meeting of Executive Body of Police Parivar Fund, held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today.

            Addressing the meeting, the DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been fighting the menace of terrorism for over two decades during which a large number of   brave janwans and officers laid down their precious lives. It was due to their supreme sacrifices that the security situation in the State has shown great improvement bringing down the sufferings of people in the backdrop of violence unleashed by the terrorists have come down, said  Khoda.

The DGP said that the violence left hundreds of families and children of the   police martyrs alone and the Organization realized its prime responsibility to come forward and provide a helping hand in the form of financial assistance to these families, he added. He said that among various welfare steps taken for the welfare of the families of police martyrs and the serving personnel, scholarships are provided to their wards so that they could continue their studies and excel in different fields of life. He said that besides scholarships, free education is provided to them in Police Public Schools established in the State.

Giving details,  Khoda said that over Rs. 5.60 lakhs have been sanctioned in favour of 159 children of police personnel who have sacrificed their lives while fighting militancy in the State and also more than Rs. 0.48 lakhs in favour of 58 meritorious wards of serving police personnel. The scholarships have been sanctioned for the academic year 2009-2010. He said that the scholarships have been sanctioned out of Central Police Welfare Fund in favour of the students studying in various educational institutions. The Fund has been created for enabling the children to get quality education and more efforts are on to enhance the latest teaching techniques in the schools run by JKP, he added.
