Wetlands issues reviewed by social workers.
CHITRAL: A very important and meaningful meeting of Pakistan Wetlands Programme held ., to discuss about the on going different projects and activities in Chitral, particularly related to Broghuil and Shandur .Ahmad Saeed, Site Manager Northern Alpine Wetlands Complex (NAWC) and Hamid Mir, social organizer facilitated the participants. The notable personalities were .. Giesen, Senior Environmental Consultant of Netherlands, Abdul Latif Rao, Chairman Rao Sustainability Development Islamabad, Saeed –uz-Zaman Conservator Wildlife (of eight district), NWFP Wildlife Department, Ahmad Khan Regional Program Manager PWP Islamabad ,Principal 0. Ibrahim, Northern Citizen Community Board Chitral and a local government representative were also present on the occasion Saeed warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and he gave an impressive presentation, pointing the projects and activities in Chitral. During the discussion various questions were raised but Ahmad Khan and Ahmad Saeed jointly answered those questions with eloquence and in detail. Mr. Giesen greatly involved in the discussion and he inputted his precious ideas for the sustainability and practicality of the projects at the larger interest of the community. M. Saeed -uz-Zaman, said that Broghuil is the most far-flung area of Chitral and life is very difficult and he suggested ‘Social Emergency Fund’ for the area so that during winter an emergency aid should be easily available to the community in no time. Ibrahim said that PWP so far is practical in its activities such as solid waste disposal involving a large number of school students and volunteers, lectures on environment, awareness walk, skill development, installment of Wind electric power in Borghuil and quiz competition in radio Pakistan Chitral in a local language due to that more than millions of people listen to the program, are the great achievements of PWP. He said with stress for sustainable projects an endowment fund is essential and NCCB determined to raise 20% of the whole fund. He also requested for to declare Shandur and Broghuil as Ramsar Sites and a National Park in sub-division Mastuj, so that these projects would play a pivotal role in the eradication of poverty and would systematically bring happiness among the common people in Chitral.
