Sachin Tendulkar, the most successful batsman in ODIs with a record aggregate of 16440 runs and a record tally of 42 hundreds, has been involved in a few rummy streaks during the last three years: In 2007, he was dismissed in the nervous nineties on as many as six occasions- twice each against South Africa, England and Pakistan. His scoring sequence read: 99, 93, 99, 94, 99 and 97. It even made his son Arjun remark, “Papa, you should go for a six once you are on 94.” Those dismissals made him the record holder for the most nineties (17) in an ODI career.
• In dozen matches in 2008, the master batsman could raise only one hundred – a magnificent 117 not out against Australia in the triangular final at Sydney on March 2, 2008 – which remains his last ODI ton. Over the last one year, he has failed to notch up another century.
• And finally, in three matches in 2009, he has been dismissed leg before wicket for single-digit scores (all controversial decisions) in Sri Lanka. This is the first and only instance of a hat-trick of lbw dismissals in the little master’s career.
What next, Sachin?
