In the course of my work as a Citizen Journalist of Digital Journal, I came across a good number of comments from boxing fans all over the world about Manny Pacquiao as a person that he is and as a professional boxer. Many of these comments were sent to me in reaction to the articles and news stories that are published online by Digital Journal.
Reading the comments at the bottom of my articles gave me an idea of who really is Manny Pacquaio both as a person and as a professional boxer. Some examples and a reprint of these comments are quoted herein:
“Juan Manuel Marquez cannot be a good candidate to face Manny Pacquiao next. He is not as classy as Oscar de la Hoya, Eric Morales and David Diaz. There is bitterness in him when he lost in a fight. Last time he fought Pacman, he was floored three times in the first round alone. He claimed he was the winner of the fight even after the judge admitted that he made a mistake in tallying his scoreboard. In the second fight again he went down and there was an instance where he got hit he look dazed with his eyes crossed. And still claims he won. How can you win a fight lying down on the floor? Manny in himself is a very good person, if you observed in the seventh and eighth round of his fight with de la Hoya, every time he pummels and forces Oscar’s back to the rope, Manny slows down And moves back to the middle of the ring showing pity on de la Hoya. Manny is an aggressive fighter, fights like a lion, but with a big heart of a human being. When you are down, he respects you, he is not there to humiliate you… he is just out there as a fighter doing his job”.

“I also noticed that. I really think that the fight should have ended with a KO on the seventh or eight rounds but then it is obvious that Manny did not go all the way to finish the match. He gets in gear and then hits the brake. Manny respect de la Hoya and he is one of Oscar’s fans. It is a great honor for him to fight Oscar but for him knowing that his idol is being hurt and going on without punching him back would humiliate his idol more. Manny knows that this could be Oscar’s last fight but Manny feels that a great fighter such as de la Hoya should be remembered as a great fighter and not someone who was humiliated by an underdog, shorter than him, less in reach, less in fighting experience. If it was another fighter like Marquez, he would gladly finished it off whenever there is a chance and go all the way for a heavy, hard-hitting knock out. Manny wasn’t only a good fighter, he is a good human”.

These are two typical comments that I get whenever I published articles with other online publishing sites that speak about the good traits of Manny Pacquiao as a person. There are other comments with similar messages that I did not post here for lack of space.
In past encounters with other world-class boxers, Manny Pacquiao would always come up with some gestures of concern for his fellow boxer. In the Pacquiao-David Diaz lightweight match, he rushed to the corner of Diaz after the bloody fight to see if he was alright. He did the same with Erik Morales, Larios and Barrera.
Outside the ring, Manny Pacquiao is the same caring and concerned person. Most of all he is humble and low key. He will go out of his way to help a person in need. He is God fearing and a religious man. He prays hard before the start of every fight and does the same to thank God for all the blessings.
Manny Pacquiao may be a rich man now but he said that money is not that important to him as he would always be willing share his winnings with the poor people with legitimate needs. He said that God will always provide. If you give more, you will receive more, he said. Manny seldom declines request for assistance from anyone with a real need of help. He has been generous with contributions and donations to charitable institutions that seek his financial support.
With his genuine concern for his fellowmen there is no doubt that Manny Pacquiao will continue to succeed in his quest for supremacy and greatness in his chosen field.
