When we say religion, it talks about the teachings of God, of congregations, of spiritual beliefs and the understanding of divine worship. But what if religion itself becomes cult and uses God’s name to fool, deceive, manipulate, and take advantage of the ignorance or innocence of all members? Usually, this situation is common in the Philippines and they are scattered all over the country. Religious cultisms are prevalent and people found to be more attracted to the unconventional teachings cultists preached. Most religious cults in the Philippines ask for offerings or contributions from their members in regular basis. The leaders or pastors of these religious cults are well off with their mansions, flashy cars and other luxuries that the ordinary members don’t have. Obviously, tithes contributed much wealth to these fake “men of God.” In one of the story that until now is making buzz in the media, is the sad story of a family whose only child and daughter was brainwashed by a big and influential religious cult. It was in 2005 when the husband and wife last saw their daughter. It was unbearable for the family to lose their only daughter that was taken and brought to the cults’ hideaway far in the south of the Philippines. The family tried to seek back their daughter but they failed until the father died in 2006. And only a few days ago, the mother was featured once again on TV pleading to her daughter to come back. The mother lives in the northern part of the country. All religious cults hold power in the country because they are being supported by powerful politicians. Actually, politicians and religious cults are the benefactors of their union every time the country conducts elections.
