On the CTV news broadcast this morning, it was reported several times that a Canadian television station was being punished, sanctioned by the CRTC which is the “Big Brother” for all Canadian communications stations radio and/or television.
Here’s the part though that has me baffled and confused. The station is being sanctioned and shut down for “Not having [enough Canadian pornography content] in its programming content”.
How on earth does this make any sense at all? As consumers, we take a stand to fight against pornography and pornographic content fighting to stop it or at least to limit it, to protect ourselves, our children our families from such “Smut”. As consumers we fight tooth and nail with the television stations and the CRTC to keep such programming under control and in check.
What kind of idiots do we have working for us and running the CRTC; Canada’s media watchdog, when they turn around and sanction and shutdown a television station for not having “Enough” pornography, Canadian or otherwise? Are these people at the CRTC nuts?
How can a government agency who is supposed to be working for the public interest and protecting the public from such things as pornography, be seen as working in the public’s interest, when it shuts down a television station for not having enough Canadian pornographic content, when 99 % of the public feels that any pornographic content is too much?
