Chitral transporters observe strike
CHITRA: Transporters in Chitral went on a wheel jam strike leaving scores of passengers stranded at various places, at a time when harsh weather, coupled with absence of essential services like electricity are already telling on their nerves. The transporters are protesting confiscation of Non Custom paid (NCP) vehicles by the Customs staff, helped by the Para military forces at Arandu check post. The president Drivers union Mumtaz Ali Khan said, there were thousands of NCP vehicles plying in other cities of Malakand division but such were being ignored but Chitral has a maximum of 40 to 50 vehicles and the authorities were after them. He said the use of NCP vehicles have been authorised in Malakand division and such are being registered at local police stations. He demanded that any operations against NCP vehicles should commence from Swat and Dir and then reach Chitral because Chitral is the most peaceful area.
