Addressing a press conference in Jammu BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas alleged that the SHO concerned of Gulabgarh Police Station and his police team responsible for it should be arrested immediately and a case for rape and murder under Sections 376 and 302 against them should be registered as the people of the area believe that these hapless girls have been killed by the police officials after keeping them in the lockup and subjecting them severe brutalities.
Manhas said that two minor girls namely Sapna and Sunita, both residents of Atholi village in Gulabgarh area of Kishtwar distict, who were arrested by police alongwith a boy of the same area namely Pardeep Kumar on July 12 on fabricated grounds and SHO of the police station Farooq Ahmed Wani neither informed the parents of the girls, nor took any respectable citizen of the village into confidence in handling the issue of these minor girls belonging to scheduled caste community.
While the boy, who also belongs to the same community, was released after four hours on the same day, the poor girls were kept in the lockup for unlimited period and there whereabouts are not known to any one till date. It points towards a greater conspiracy on the part of SHO and his team to have maltreated both these girls and later eliminated them by any foul means to cover up their misdeeds, Manhas said.
The SHO of Gulabgarh, being Incharge of the Police station, have failed to disclose the wherabouts of the arrested girls till date. The local administration has apointed a Dy.SP to hold inquiry, which is an eye wash and BJP rejects it ourightly, said BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas .
The people of the area were agitated and they have been holding protest demonstrations since then drawing attention of the authorities to act sternly against the culprits. However, the authorities acted casually by only suspending the SHO and holding an enquiry into the issue by an officer of the rank of Dy.SP.
Flaying the government for having different approaches with regard to similar type of crimes for people of Kashmir and people of Jammu, the BJP chief asked why government right from the Chief Minister was serious in a similar incident pertaining to Shopian town and held several inquiries including judicial and ordered action stringent action against the culprits there.
Asserting that BJP will not leave any stone unturned in bringing the culprits to book, Manhas said that we will also approach bodies like Human Rights Commission, Women Commission and Scheduled Caste Commission in this matter.
He also flayed granting of rupees 75,000 as compensation to the families of these girls by the government after the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal and IGP, Jammu Ashok Gupta, visited the area. “It is not only an insult to the families but also admission by the government that the girls have been killed during the custody of Police”. He demamded judicial probe and adequate compensation to the families besides imediate withdrawal of false, fabricated and frivolous cases registered against the locals aimed at harassing them because they have been raising voice against the police atrocities and inhuman acts.
The BJP Chief also criticised the champions of human rights for their criminal silence over the killings and appealed the Women Commission and the Scheduled Caste Commission to take cognigance of the offence comitted by custodians of law so that they are taught a lesson that such incidents do not re-occur in future and faith of the people is retored in the system.
BJP State vice-President Anil Gupta, General Secretary Satish Sharma, party MLAs Prof. Gharu Ram and Shyam Choudhary and BJYM State President Munish Sharma, who were the members of the team deputed by the State BJP to visit the site of incident, meet the local people and the administration to know the truth, were also present in the press conference alongwith BJP Chief.
