The Democratic race was long and grueling as it went through all contests as both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have fought it out. While Obama continued to get strong, Clinton was weakening. But, Clinton continued fighting with every ounce of might to the very end. In short, Clinton had fought tooth and nail.
At the end, Clinton’s presidential hopes have ended after the final two primaries. There were many factors and play that damaged Clinton’s campaign. One was assistance from her husband, former US President Bill Clinton. Many believed that help from Bill should boost Hillary’s chances. But, Bill was loose cannon through the entire contest. He had lashed out at the media several times. Ultimately, many said that Hillary lost South Carolina to Obama because of it.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign was shaky from the start. Also, it did not seem that Clinton researched the DNC delegate rules that well.
But that is all in the past as Clinton has dropped out and given her endorsement to Obama. It is also the end of the line for Bill Clinton. But, what will Bill do after this?
However, the bigger question is: What will Hillary do after this?
Many expect Clinton to start stumping for Obama. Due to the aftermath of what happened in the contest resulting in the split between the Obama and Clinton supporters; that may be very awkward. Many Clinton supporters have been frustrated and angered at the outcome. Despite Clinton saying she will support Obama, most of her supporters think in a different light.
If Clinton stumps for Obama, that will be quite interesting. If anybody is around the areas that Clinton stumps for Obama, please take videos and pictures.
Many have tossed Clinton’s name up as a possible VP running-mate. But, not everybody is keen on such a “dream ticket.” A few said that it would be nightmarish for the Democratic Party.
Clinton has downplayed the aspect.
“Hillary Clinton may actually think she spent the last year, year-and-a-half of getting out from the shadow of Bill Clinton. She may not want to get underneath the wing of Barack Obama,” according to Jamal Simmons, an Obama supporter and Democratic analyst.
But, other ideas of Clinton’s political future are up in the air. One idea would be running for New York State Governor in 2010. But, she would be pitted up current governor David Paterson, who is well liked amongst both Democrats and Republicans. Paterson is the state’s first African-American governor of New York. This came amidst the scandal of former governor Eliot Spitzer.
Another possibility is Senate Majority Leader. But, Clinton has many obstacles in her path if she does aim for Harry Reid’s position. However, do not discount the possibility of the GOP taking back control of Congress. While the GOP is struggling to repair its image, they can still take control back. In the world of politics, nothing is in concrete.
Should that be the case, Clinton could aim for Senate Minority Leader.
Another possibility could be a Supreme Court justice. But, that possibility is iffy. Overall, it would depend on who gets the presidency. It will be an uphill battle between Obama and presumed GOP nominee John McCain.
If Obama wins the US Presidency, there is the possibility of Clinton being part of his cabinet. Clinton would be essential to the issue of health care. Many have felt that Clinton’s health care plan is superior to Obama’s health care plan.
Many supporters want her to run as an Independent. But, that seems highly unlikely.
And then, there is returning to the United States Senate. The question is: What will Hillary do after losing the Democratic nomination?
