Recently back in May, the ban on same-sex marriages has been overturned. Now, same-sex marriages are legal in California. Expect a large number of same-sex marriages to take place in California this month. While it is legal, there are those that are defying the overturning of the ban. There is the sense of reverse deja-vu soon to take place in California.
Back in late 2003 when former action star Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Republican became governor of California following the recall election, there was the issue of gay marriages. There were many that had defied the ban on same-sex marriages. San Francisco was the one city that did most of the defiance as it allowed for same-sex marriages to go through.
Schwarzenegger had told the people of San Francisco to stop with such marriages. Now, he has no legal jurisdiction to say no to same-sex marriages. As the people defied the ban in the pass, now there are people to defy the legalization of gay-marriage.
Central Valley, a conservative area of California, plans to shut down all marriage ceremonies. “Gender-neutral” marriage licenses will be handed out. However, they will not preside over the marriage ceremonies. Ann Barnett of Kern County said she will stop presiding over marriage ceremonies starting on June 14. This was when she learned she is not allowed to pick couples to marry.

While gay-marriage is legal in California, there are those that resist it. There are those working to make it unconstitutional after November.
