Seventy-two dead bodies (58 men + 14 women) were discovered near the US-Mexico border on 24 August. The source reports that the victims were identified mainly as undocumented immigrants from El Salvador, Honduras, Ecuador and Brazil.
Mexican security forces claim that a smuggling gang murdered them after having kidnapped them. The Mexican Security Forces has estimated that the smuggling gang Los Zetas tried to enslave them to work for them.
It is not a new thing that both US and Mexican security forces have targeted immigrants rather than smugglers, who celebrate their paradise in the border territories. The Mexican and US governments have either supported smuggling gangs or have lost all control in the bilateral territories. Latinos in the US often accuse the US Administration of having supported smuggling gangs to massacre immigrants.
The latest 72 victims are only the latest samples. There always were, are and will be. This is against humanity. This issue must be raised in the UN General Assembly. Especially, Latin American ambassadors must take an initiative to debate the quota killing going on in the US-Mexico border.
Quota killing is not a right measure to deal with the immigration problem. Right policies with right intentions are essential to address the concerns.
