Pakistan entered in war on terror long before 911, when prior to attacks on WTC Pakistani government started banning militant out fits, which originated during and after completion of American jihad in Afghanistan. Pakistan is the country victim of American imperialism and world politics.
Anglo- American support for extremism and Takfir dates back to 18 century. British Empire supported Wahabis of Middle East. After the Break up of British Empire the torch of imperialism came to hands of US. Before cold war , Extremism was supported for commercial interests and to break up Ottoman Empire. Interestingly in early 20th century both Shrif of Makkah who was ruler of Hijaz and Ale Saud both were allies of west. When Ottomans were defeated the Hijaz was given to Wahabi Ale Saud and Shrif of Makkah was given rule of Iraq and Jordan. Shrif e Makkah was moderate Muslim may be West wanted Muslim Holy Land in hand of hardliner salfies so that Islamic extremism could be used as tool in strategic policy against Communism . After fall of Ottomans Extremist Muslims and Regimes became allies of Imperials in Fight against Communism.
US and Western powers supported Takfiri and extremist groups as tool for their policies. Akhwan ul Muslimeen was financed and used against growing Nassirism and Arab Nationalism … Hamas was created by US and Israel to balance PLO…Then same Takfir and Islamic extremism was used against Soviets in Afghanistan and Central Asia….
After fall of USSR these extremists played important role in promoting Free worlds interests….like creating conditions in strategic regions for American interventions…recently Ansar Al Islam was promoted in Lebanon against Shia Hezbollah according to Seymour Harsh.
In Pakistan we became the victims when in order to avenge Vietnam US government started financing Mullahs of Afghanistan to draw Soviet troops into Afghanistan.. Criminals and religious fanatics were brought to Pakistan to fight American Jihad. Thousands of Tafsir (Commentaries of Qur’an) and books were published in US and distributed free in Pakistan and Afghan refugee camps to brain wash people and make them fanatics and supporters of Afghan jihad.
Coming back to topic Pakistan, through out its history remained victim of American imperialism. At this moment Pakistan is under criticism from west and especially from Americans for doing less in war on terror.
From Past few days comments are coming from American diplomats and officials in which they criticizing Pakistan for not taking action against “So called Quetta Shura” Especially US Ambassador and embassy officials are accusing that Mullah Omer and OBL are hiding in Pakistan. Interestingly they are accusing but are failing to give any evidence or intelligence about it. Americans know that in Past Pakistan acted on their intelligence and apprehended the culprits but this time they are following Indian model to gain strategic benefits. Any student of War on Terror and International Politics understands that this pressure is more for domestic audience to sell war in Afghanistan and to hide blunders and mistakes which US and NATO committed and are committing in Afghanistan.
I laugh and then cry when I see American and western press aggressively attacking government and army of Pakistan for doing less. Pakistan has sacrificed more then 2000 soldiers in War on terror as compare to 1424 soldiers of allied forces in Afghanistan. Pakistani troops are fighting toughest insurgency in FATA and settled areas of Pakhtoonkhwa Province. Never before Nation faced such a ruthless enemy who slaughter soldiers and people like goats then Show their heads to media to create terror.
Pakistan is in state of civil war only because of its alliance with US. Whole nation is in living in constant fear and uncertainty… in fear of suicide bombings and other acts of terror. .. Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorists have caused thousands of deaths and billion of Dollars worth loss… but again they say Pakistan is doing nothing….
Keeping aside American and western allegation here in this essay we will discuss what US AND NATO is doing in Afghanistan. Its becoming clear that US and NATO are playing Blame Game and Nothing more.
Ahmed Rashid in his book Dissent into Chaos has beautifully drawn picture how US Helped War lords in Pashtun genocide and replaced Taliban with drug lords and criminals. In 2002 alone, according to him more then 80000 Pashtuns were forced to leave Northern Afghanistan to escape prosecution from the hands of Tajik and Uzbek war lords.
Hamid Karzai was made president with overwhelming majority of those who were anti Pashtuns Northern alliance commander. Steps were Taken without doing any research on Afghan especially Pashtun tribal culture, resulting in making the largest ethnic group hostile.
On wrong and bias intelligence hundreds may be thousands of innocent people were killed and then without apology were labeled as Collateral Damage.
I am 100 % sure that American and NATO forces were carrying good intensions but the way they trusted criminal war lords created troubles for them and they lost Afghanistan the day they started banking on worst criminals who were now helping them.
Soon the time came when Afghanistan started giving picture of Soviet Invasion era. Situation came to the point where According to Times on line US and NATO started financing Taliban indirectly in Afghanistan
A transport company owner who runs convoys south on the notoriously dangerous Kabul to Kandahar highway said: “We pay taxes to both thieves and the Taleban to get our trucks through Ghazni province and there are several ways of paying. The corruption in Afghan government dominated by Uzbek and Tajik war lords reached new heights under the watch full eyes of Americans and NATO. Not a drop trickled into Afghan people.
US and European media propagated that West is pumping billion of dollars in reconstruction of Afghanistan but in reality the money helped only Afghan elite and western workers in reconstruction of their wealth , in words of Patrick Cockburn, a well know reporter of Independent
"Vast sums of money are being lavished by Western aid agencies on their own officials in Afghanistan at a time when extreme poverty is driving young Afghans to fight for the Taliban. Due to lack of time I have given only two examples but these examples gives picture of Afghanistan after US invasion and gives idea about what went wrong and how US and its Allies under intoxication of power committed blunders.
Now US has started realizing ground situation. Some officials are talking about addressing Pashtun grievances. Mac Crystals report tells a lot and draws a realistic picture about Afghanistan. We are also seeing some efforts in right direction, for example US has acknowledged Karzai , a Pashtun from Abdali Tribe as reelected president of Afghanistan which will help Pashtun passions to cool down but as a whole the water is now above head. Damage has become un-repairable. Taliban movement which was religious movement in past, is now Pashtun national movement. With every innocent Pashtun killed in collateral damage, Pashtun population moves closer to Taliban.
Instead of investing in Pashtuns and in National building US and NATO has infect helped extremists. Now to sell the war and hide facts from American public they are blaming Pakistan which according to any rule is un-justified.
