Many months before Kenyans could elect their fourth head of state, His Excellency, President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is on record for having assured the electorates that when the BIG DAY will finally come, he will wholeheartedly bear the weight of the inevitable cross all by himself. Kenyans believed him and so did I.
Truth is we all saw no point of him dragging a whole country and of late, the whole continent into the Hague messy affairs someday. We all knew no Kenyan or particular was on trial and the ICC had repeatedly echoed the same sentiments. Time ran so fast and today the youngest son of the Late Jomo Kenyatta is not only the fourth Head of State of Kenya but also the very first Sitting President to answer to grave charges bordering mass murders and evictions including raping of innocent Kenyan mothers and daughters.
So much has been going on in the ever vague corridors of powers and from the body language of our Head of State, he is not willing at all to honor their date with the ICC come 12th of November 2013. Having inherited a corrupt regime whose governance basis has since time immemorial been run-away impunity, it is no surprise that a sizeable chunk of our leaders are openly supporting such a gesture.
Perhaps we should wonder why our Head of State seems so much afraid of the court proceedings. Honestly, if he is innocent why not attend and clear his name first? Kenyans had faith and still does…he will remain our most beloved president; the choice of the many whether found guilty or innocent. It is no question that ICC was the majorities’ last option when it became clear that our judicial mechanisms were still impaired and run by the same cold-blooded merchants of impunity. We welcomed them and domesticated the Court for the sake of obtaining justice for the killed, the maimed and even the IDPs Camps’ remnants.
Everyone knows what such a gesture will mean to our country; everyone has witnessed what sanctions and global community isolation did to one tough guy called Uncle Bob (Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe). If our president cares so much for this country, then he must attend the court proceedings and clear out his name.
