In about 2 weeks, popular boxers Manny Pacquiao and Oscar de la Hoya will square it off at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Many believe that Pacquaio does not have a chance of winning over the much superior Oscar de la Hoya.
Aside from the much talked about sheer superiority of de la Hoya, a recent news alert from the Pacquiao camp about the failure of a certain plyometric system, said to be a muscle enhancer being administered on him in order to attain maximum muscle strength. This recent development prompted trainer Freddie Roach to discontinue the treatment.
From the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California, International boxing judge, Salven Lagumbay reporting for Boxing.com said” Pacquiao has discontinued doing the plyometrics routine following a thorough study done by Filipino trainers, Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri”
Pacquiao’s Filipino trainers observed that Manny could not jog well because of body pains. It is possible that the plyometric application did not work well for him and his system could not take it.
Right after the treatment was discontinued, Manny was able to jog well and he was back to his original, deadly fighting form as reported during his sparring sessions.
“Finally, an explanation has been made as to why superstar Manny Pacquiao was sluggish and look less than stellar in sparing last week” Lagumbay said.
It was widely reported that plyometric system was proven to be effective on runners and jumpers but no basis or proof has been reported on its good effects on boxers. This is probably the first time that it is being experimented on Pacquiao.
Manny Pacquiao is once again in his original fighting form and seems ready to rumble. But the damage done to his body by the plyometric treatment could not be ascertained and the number of days to recoup may not be enough. The possibility of Pacquiao losing this boxing match to Oscar de la Hoya could be attributed to this plyometric application which is doing him more harm than good.
The most popular pound for pound boxer is an underdog in his forthcoming match with Oscar de la Hoya because of the latter’s advantage in reach, height and weight. Knowledgeable boxing personalities and sportswriters predict that Oscar de la Hoya will win over Manny Pacquiao because of Oscar’s physical superiority.
