Malaysians loved almost everything that is imported. Well, human beings included here.
Why? Because we even have imported brides.
Imported brides aside, among the fanatics imported vehicles are flawless. It is as if they are made by angels. Toyota is one name that is synonymous with high quality. The purchases of a Toyota car are controversial and are even debated in the Parliament.
Take for example, the former state government of Perak under the Pakatan Rakyat and the state government of Terengganu. It is not so much the high price that caused the debate but the love of everything foreign. In this case it is Toyota. It is unthinkable to say that one loved Malaysia and not Proton. Proton is Malaysia’s very own baby.
The uproar caused by the recalling of several brands of Toyota cars abroad does not really make us refocus our attention to their sudden acceleration or brakes here. It is the utmost trust placed by its consumers. Consumers here and abroad loved Toyota cars so much that they felt deeply betrayed the very moment Toyota started recalling their cars.
Such trust is even deeper here in Malaysia. We did not even acknowledge that the sudden acceleration is indeed a flaw. Some consumers even equated that sudden acceleration with power. The raw power never possessed by local brands such as Proton or Perodua.
Well, of course Toyota has their say.
