I was looking for some information on Wikipedia today and found a message on top of the page asking users for donations which is required to run their website.Since last few years Wikipedia has been source of great information on any topic you are looking for. It has become almost synonymous with google as a search on any topic inevitably leads to a wikipedia article.User generated content has made it sixth most popular site in the world(according to Alexa ranking). As a student of information technology and Buisness Management I found wikipedia immensely helpful as a knowledege resource,which would have otherwise not only made my pockets lighter but also wasted a lot of time.
The greatest thing about this site is that it is ad free which makes life here so much easier for us.With no apparent source of revenue they are asking for donations from users.The amount of donation can be as low as 100 Indian Rupees(less than two dollars).In an age when we are fighting for right of open access to information ,Wikipedia is our greatest symbol of democratising access to information.Let us come forward to support the greatest library in the world.
