The programme was organized in collaboration with a local NGO Global Green Peace, and Environment Protection Middle School R.S. Pura. The students, teachers of various schools of Gharana Wetland and adjoining areas participated in the program. The school children, teachers along with the activists of Global Green Peace and Wildlife field staff covered a distance of 2 Kilometers from the village Gharana to Nava Pind.
On the occasion, the Range Officer Wetlands Vijay Singh, wildlife field staff and Davinder Choudary educated and sensitized the children about the wildlife sanctuary/wetlands and its flora and fauna and other features of Protected Area.
The Gharana wetland attracts thousands of migratory birds, including water fowl during winter. It has been declared as Wetland conservation Reserve under the J&K Wildlife Protection Act1978 and as globally Important Bird Area(IBA) .
At the end of Nature Walk the school children/teachers and members of the NGO gathered at Gharana Wetland.
Prominent among others who participated in this program included Sh. Davinder Choudary NGO Global Green Peace Environment Protection Middle School R.S. Pura and Sh. Sama Ram Numberdar of Gharana. The Department distributed pamphlets/ posters and handouts to the locals regarding the Do’s and Don’ts to be followed as precautionary measures averting or minimizing of human conflicts.
Sheetal Verma of Global Green Peace Environment Protection Middle School R.S. Pura, Seema Choudary, Model Public School Shamaka, Seema Devi, Global Green Peace Environment Protection Middle School R.S. Pura, Priya Menya, Government Middle School Gouper Basti R.S. Pura were adjudged as 1st , 2nd, and 3rd on the basis of group discussion and interaction about the wildlife and conservation issues. Tanvi Choudary, Global Green Peace Environment Protection Middle School R.S. Pura was given consolation prize.
