Tonight the Republicans in the Wisconsin State Senate voted to pass the "Budget Repair" legislation that has kept their Democratic colleagues out of state for the last 23 days. There were no Democratic State Senators on the floor.
Legislators, having previously declared that the bill could not be changed, tonight removed all provisions from the bill that applied to the budget, leaving only the removal of state employees’ collective bargaining rights. Their claim was that since it was no longer a budget bill, they no longer needed at least 20 votes to pass. The vote was 18-1.
This move may be illegal and an investigation has been requested of the Wisconsin Attorney General.
After the vote, protestors pushed their way into the State Capitol building once more and are still chanting at this time.
Since this legislative standoff began, polling has shifted dramatically among the citizens of Wisconsin and the US against the union busting legislation and Governor Scott Walker.
This situation is still in progress. Watch GroundReport for updates.
