A woman in Chitipa, northern Malawi, threw her newly born child in a pit in an effort to save her marriage after the husband refused responsibility of the child.
According to sources from Chitipa, Northern Malawi , Beatrice threw the child after the husband came back from Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi,over 400 kilometres away , where he went to look for a job.
The husband was then surprised to find her pregnat after he had just stayed with her for only five months.
For fear to lose her marriage, she threw her child in a pit but neighbours heard the cry quickly and rushed to save the child.
Police later arrested her.She is meanwhwile admitted awaiting a case to answer at Chitipa Magistrate Court.
Police have confirmed the arrest.
